WELCOME BACK – CRICKET 2008
Spring is almost upon us and let's keep our fingers crossed for a glorious summer. We think that, after last season, we are owed some better weather! Plans are afoot to organise the new season and we hope to welcome back our players and parents from last year.

This website will be our main means of communication so please keep your eyes out for any new details. If you have any problems accessing the information, please let us know.

Our aims for this season are to:
  • Consolidate our ability to provide enjoyable cricket training and fixtures for our players.
  • Manage an Under 15 age-group for the first time.
  • Develop stronger links with the Senior Club.
  • Source the facilities such as nets to offer better training.

    COMMITTEE
The Committee has met several times already this year and the usual suspects are still in charge! However, we have had a re-shuffle of the duties that are outlined below. Contact emails can be found on the ‘About the Club’ page.

    Chair Sean Leach
    General Secretary Chris Ward
    Treasurer Simon Blake
    Membership Secretary    Andy Pugh
    Fixtures Secretary Dave Ventress

    TRAINING
We have already started some indoor training for some of our hard-ball cricketers using the Gym at RAF Benson. This has proved to be a success so far and is something we would like to develop in the future.

The outdoor training sessions will take place on Warborough Green from 6-8pm commencing on Friday 25 April. The final session will take place on Friday 18 July and we will make a decision at a later date whether we shall run training on the half-term Friday. The length of the training sessions for the younger age-groups will be slightly shorter in length.

As the Club continues to expand, the 'real estate' of the Green is becoming very crowded. This year we have decided to move the training night of one of the hard-ball groups to Tuesday night to relieve the pressure on the space. I'm sure that this will present some problems for some of our players because many will have other commitments. However, it is a step we need to take because it will enable us to provide a safer training environment and improve the quality of the training for the hard-ball groups. A decision will be made very shortly on which group will be affected. Please keep a close eye on the details in the relevant age-group web-pages.

    PLAYER REGISTRATION
The registration process will be the same as last year.

    EXISTING PLAYERS
Please download and complete the form attached below. Please send this by post to Andy Pugh (Membership Secretary) by 31 March. Details of Andy’s address and the payment details are on the form. Please make every effort to meet the deadline because we do have a large waiting list of those wishing to join.

    WAITING LIST
If you are on the waiting list, please be patient with us while we find out how many existing players will be returning and we work out how many additional spaces we can offer. We will contact you in early April as places arise with further information. If you are not on the waiting list and would like to be, please contact the Club.

    HELP
Our plans this season can only come to fruition with help from you. Last year was successful thanks to the valuable help from a small number of volunteers. This season, with more players, we need even more help. We require:
    • Coaches to help manage the sessions. As a guide, we need a minimum of 2 adults for the older age-groups and 3-4 adults for the smaller children. We are planning to organise an Introduction to Coaching Course to provide any volunteers with the confidence and ‘tools’ to undertake this activity.
    • Administrative helpers in each age-group to complete the register at training sessions and take messages for the coaches while they are busy.
    • Helpers to prepare the Pavilion and pitches for matches and training. The Coaches and Managers are invariably busy with the players. Perhaps you know of somebody who would be prepared to assist with the maintenance of the pitch and outfield.
    • Volunteers to organise and manage the some social events during the season.

We want to continue to provide a fun, high quality, cricket experience but need your help to do it. If you can assist, please contact any of the Committee.

    CLUB POLICIES
Our Club policies can be found in detail on the ‘About the Club’ web-page. However, we would like to mention a few specific points that have presented us with some difficulties in the past. These are:
    • No player is allowed to participate in a Club activity unless a Registration Form has been completed and a Registration Fee paid. This allows the Club to comply with our insurance policy.
    • Our waiting list is managed on the principle of the date on which an interest was shown. Therefore, if you have friends who wish to join, ask them to contact us in the first instance. Please do not bring them along to a training session as they will not be able to participate.
    • In the same vein, if your child has a friend staying for a sleepover who is not a member of the Club, they will not be able to participate in the training.
    CRICKET BAT SIZES
The Club provides the equipment required to play the game. However, by popular request, if anyone wishes to buy their own bat, here are list of ECB recommended bat sizes:

Height of Child (m) Bat Size
    0-1.29 1
    1.29-1.37 2
    1.37-1.44 3
    1.44-1.50 4
    1.50-1.57 5
    1.57-1.63 6
    1.63-1.68 Harrow
    1.68-1.75 Academy
    1.75 - Full size

    AND FINALLY...
We are all volunteers ourselves and, therefore, we are not experts. Please provide us with feedback so that we can keep improving.
